October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to shed light on this deeply invasive issue that affects not only partners but also families. To gain further insight, please read on...
The Brookings Domestic Abuse Shelter, known to many, has recently undergone changes, including a transition in leadership following the passing of the beloved Margo Dempsey. Acknowledging that challenges lead to growth, we, at the shelter, aim to honor our late mentor/director along with all her contributions to our community by dedicating our name and logo to her legacy. Recognizing the difficulty of her work, we appreciate the foundation she laid for a brighter future. Each day, we remember and miss this remarkable lady, whose impact was profound on all who knew her. To honor her memory and the people she deeply cared for, we have decided to rename the shelter and from this day forth due business as “Margo’s Place”. Despite our new name and logo, our dedication remains unwavering to assisting those encountering Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Human Trafficking, & Stalking

Practice Inclusivity:
Ensure that women’s voices are heard and valued in all areas of life, from workplace meetings to community activities. Advocate for gender equality and challenge discriminatory practices whenever you encounter them.
Being a supportive friend today will create a positive foundation for future generations.
Looking forward too...
